What a reply quality gate is
A reply quality gate is a pre-send checkpoint that reviews an AI-drafted customer support reply before it reaches the customer. Instead of a human skimming every message, the gate runs a set of checks — hallucination, PII leaks, brand/tone, and policy compliance — and returns a ship/hold verdict. The human still decides, but the gate surfaces the issues a tired or rushed reader would miss.
ReplyAuditor is built around this idea: you paste an AI-drafted reply, optionally add your brand or policy rules, pick a channel (Email, Live Chat, Social, or Ticket), and get a quality report with a ship/hold call.
Why AI-drafted replies need a gate
When a person writes a reply, the risk is a typo. When an AI drafts it, the risk is a confident error — a fabricated order number, a guessed refund amount, a promise the company never made. These read as normal to a quick reviewer and only surface when the customer replies "that's not what I was told."
A quality gate catches the class of mistakes that are cheap to write and expensive to ship: invented facts, leaked personal data, off-brand tone, and policy breaches. It does not need to be perfect to be useful — it needs to move the obvious failures out of the sent folder.
What the gate actually checks
- Hallucination — flags claims that look factual but are unverifiable: order numbers, tracking IDs, dates, and amounts the system cannot confirm.
- PII leaks — flags credentials, national IDs, card numbers, and other personal data that should not appear in a customer-facing reply.
- Brand / tone — checks the reply against rules you supply (greet by name, no guarantees on delivery dates, never ask for a password).
- Policy compliance — checks the reply against your support policies before it ships.
The output is a per-check pass/fail list plus a ship/hold verdict, so the reviewer knows where to look.
The ship/hold verdict
The verdict is the gate's core value: one signal — ship or hold — instead of a wall of raw text. "Hold" does not mean the reply is definitely wrong; it means at least one check failed and a human should look before sending. "Ship" means it passed the gate's checks, not that it is guaranteed flawless.
Treat the verdict as a prompt for human judgment, not a substitute for it.
What a reply quality gate cannot do
A quality gate reduces obvious failure modes and makes them visible. It is not a guarantee that a reply is accurate, compliant, or risk-free, and it is not a replacement for human review. It does not provide legal sign-off, and it cannot eliminate the legal or reputational risk of a customer-facing message. The deploying team stays responsible for what goes out.
Use it as a seatbelt, not an autopilot.
